Since gauge is king if you want your garment to fit, knitters need math. But fear not, math phobics! The basics are all here in our one-day, 2-hour workshop with Giavanna.Saturday, March 15th, 1-3 pm, $75.
In this workshop, we will go through the basics of knitting math and the power of your (blocked!) swatch. Here are a few of the topics we will cover: how to accurately measure a swatch and play around with your sweater to fit the way you want using your stitch and row gauges, how to swap in different yarn weights for your pattern, and practice some math tricks to apply to your next project.
- Choose a sweater pattern (drop shoulder, raglan, or yoke). We suggest a pattern with a lot of options for customization, such as Rebecca Clow's Tolsta Tee which has multiple style options, sleeve lengths and bust sizes.
- Knit two 4X4 blocked swatches. One knit in the yarn weight the pattern calls for and one knit in either a weight heavier or a weight lighter. For example, the Nebula sweater by Andrea Mowry calls for DK weight yarn. If you chose this pattern, you would knit a swatch in a DK weight and EITHER a sport weight or worsted weight yarn.
- Adventurous beginner + Skills required: Swatching, basic understanding of gauge, reading a pattern.
